چکیده

Metabolic pathways by which ribose may be formed have been studied in this laboratory (1, 2). There is now ample proof of the existence in many organisms of enzyme systems able to form ribose-5-phosphate from glucose-6-phosphate with intermediate stages of 6-phosphogluconate and ribulose-5-phosphate. Recent studies on the metabolism of ribulose-5phosphate have shown that it may be split by a transketolase into triose phosphate, and an active 2-carbon moiety that reappears at the hexose or heptulose level (3-6). This enzyme has been demonstrated in yeast, rat liver, and plant tissue, and in two cases the synthesis in vitro of ribulose-5phosphate has been achieved by the action of this enzyme in the presence of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and either L-erythrulose or hydroxypyruvate. Although the true biological donor of the ketol fragment is not yet known, a synthetic action of the transketolase must be considered as a possible source of ribulose. The hypothesis that ribose formation represents a synthesis from smaller molecules was the basis for the demonstrations of enzymatic synthesis of pentose in vitro by aldolases of animal and plant origin from triose phosphate and glycolaldehyde. However, the product of these syntheses was xyloketose-l-phosphate (7), and a direct synthesis of the ribose configuration by an aldolase is not likely. Two studies of the incorporation in viva of small molecules into the ribose of rat liver ribose nucleic acid have been made. The carboxyl carbon atom of glycine has been shown by Low to contribute to the carbon of the pentose (8), but the fact that the specific activity of the isolated ribose was less than that of the mixed polynucleotides suggests that the incorporation of glycine carboxyl into ribose is via a less direct route than its incorporation into the 4 position of the purine bases. The incorporation of doubly

Zinc oxide nanoparticle reduced biofilm formation and antigen 43 expressions in uropathogenic Escherichia coli

Objective(s): This study aimed to investigate the effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-np) on biofilm formation and expression of the flu gene in uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) strains. Materials and Methods: Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ZnO-np was determined by agar dilution method. The effect of MIC and sub-MIC concentrations of ZnO-np on biofilm formation were determin...

Evaluation of biofilm-forming capabilities of urinary Escherichia coli isolates in microtiter plate using two different culture media

The ability of uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) to cause symptomatic UTI is associated with the expression of a variety of virulence factors. Biofilm formation enables UPEC to resist the flow of urine and increases its tolerance to antimicrobials and the host immune response. The measurement of biofilm formation in vitro is affected by the type of culture medium used. The aim of this study was to e...

Investigation of Biofilm ability by Microtiter Plate Method in uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from patients with urinary tract infection with urinary stones.

Abstract: Background and Aim: Urinary tract infections are one of the most commonly reported nosocomial infections caused by colonization of E. coli in the mucosal epithelium and in the formation of microbial biofilms, which damage the host tissue. The aim of this study was to determine the amount of biofilm formation of uropathogenic E. coli based on urinary tract stones of people with urin...

The ability of uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolates in biofilm formation on urinary catheter and association with bcsA and draE genes

The product biofilm by E.coli strain can cause serious problem for human health. Catheter is considered to be s suitable place for colonization of microorganisms, so that in %5-10 of patients who used catheter for only one day and also in all patients who used it for over 28 days, this colonization of bacteria is observed on catheter. This study is come out in order to compare biofilm formation...
